Kratom also is known as Mitragyna speciosa, is an evergreen tree from Southeast Asia and its native countries are Malaysia, Indonesia, and Papua New Guinea. Kratom, which is the original name used currently in Thailand, is a member of the Rubiaceae family. Other members of this family include coffee and gardenia. It can be consumed either by chewing, by drying and smoking, putting into capsules, tablets or extract, and you can even boil it like when you boil a tea. In higher doses, you may feel a euphoric effect and acts as an opioid-like depressant. Common uses include treatment of pain, while others may use it to help prevent withdrawal from opiates, and are also used for mild stimulation.
The effects have been used by many workers in Southeast Asia to increase stamina and limit fatigue. But right now, many Southeast Asia countries have already banned the use of it due to its effects when used improperly. While in the US, some people have used it as an agent in aiding them when they have muscle pains, diarrhea, and it is used as a treatment for those who are experiencing opioid withdrawal. A lot of PTSD patients have also reported that they experienced positive effects while using this.
Other Possible Effects of Kratom
The effects of using kratom depend on the doses that a person takes. Those who take only small amounts may feel only stimulant effects while people who take this in higher doses experience those that are similar to opioid and CNS like depressant effects. Users may feel the effects within 10 minutes of consumption and are said to last for about 5 hours flat depending on the amounts taken. It is also used as an anti0inflammatory, used to lower fevers, cough suppressant, lowering the blood pressure, as an anesthetic, and for those who are suffering from bad diarrhea. This is known to help those who are currently experiencing withdrawals too.
The correct doses for using Kratom
If you want to experience only mild effects, then you should use only about 1 to 5 grams of leaves. For higher doses which produce euphoria-effects similar to opioids, then you should use about 5 to 15 grams of leaves. If you exceed 15 grams, then this may result to a sedated-like state. Effects may vary from person to person even if they consume the same amounts.
Various forms of Kratom
It is being sold as capsules, powder, raw leaves, gum, and so much more in the US and Europe. It is also known that college-aged people are the ones who typically purchase these. Surveys for drug abuse of kratom have not been monitored so the state of this drug is currently unknown, and the exact users of kratom are also unknown.
The Side Effects of Kratom
You may feel opioid-like effects which include nausea, sweating, a very dry mouth, sedation, frequent urination, confusion, dizziness, and so much more that you may experience with an opioid. If you become addicted to kratom, you are more likely to experience hallucinations and such.
Kratom is initially used to treat pain, but others have found out about its unique abilities and experimented with it causing an uproar. Most students who don’t want to use marijuana and other illegal drugs turn to kratom because of its somewhat same effects and improper usage may turn you into an addict.
